It was real stay-at-home weather in Bayonne, New Jersey on Saturday, May 7th. But the rain and the cold didn’t stop HTC members from taking to the streets to get out the vote for Mayor Jimmy Davis’ re-election. When polls closed on the following Tuesday, it was immediately clear that Davis and his team had safely secured another four years in office.

While out canvassing, our members were happy to brave the conditions, knowing that knocking doors in poor weather only goes to show just how serious we are about the candidates we endorse. “Supporting political candidates is how we get legislation passed and how we are able to get recognition for ourselves, and for working people in general,” said HTC member and all-star canvasser Curtis Nimmons, a chef at the Four Seasons Midtown. “It’s the ground game that allows us to make things happen!” emphasized Mahmut Idrizi, an engineer at the Peninsula and Bayonne resident.

Mayor Davis has been a steadfast advocate for working people in Bayonne throughout his first two terms, and an ally to hotel workers in particular. “Bayonne has always been a union town and we’re proud that our city is home to hard working, blue collar people who know the value of a day’s work,” said Mayor Davis after receiving HTC’s official endorsement. “Our team will always fight to make sure Bayonne delivers for working families.”

We congratulate Team Davis on his successful campaign and thank our tireless members for always showing up for pro-worker candidates, rain or shine!
